Lucca

So we spent our second day in Lucca walking around the town/city, not sure which it is...... I could look it up but accuracy is not the driving force behind this blog so if it’s an issue get yourself on Google and find out.....

anyway ..... Lucca has been fortified in the past by a very tall wall which encircles the whole of the old city. I know this because we walked ALL the way round it!!!! And it took ages!!! Personally if I had been a morauder in the Middle Ages trying to find a way into Lucca I’d have given up and gone on somewhere else for a drink and a pizza, so job well done.

Anyway, along the wall walk ,which was very pretty by the way, we found a series of beautiful sculptures, all of which I coveted for my personal appreciation back in the garden at home,Richard, ever the practical half of the partnership , pointed out that not only would they not fit in my handbag, but they might be ever so slightly missed!!!

When we finally got back to the end, or the start, depending on your viewpoint ,some refreshment was called for so we picked a cafe and sat down for a well earned rest!!!!

Lucca is beautiful for an afternoon wander, the streets are narrow, cobbled and , best

of all, mostly traffic free. There are bars and restaurants everywhere and buskers around every corner.....most of them exhibited amazing talent , the only exception to this array of musical ability was the trumpet player, who appeared to have mastered only three notes which he played in a variety of tuneless ways outside our window for two hours!! I was up for paying him to f**k off after ten minutes but kind hearted Richard persuaded me that he probably had six children and a portly wife to support and so I let him be.

Later, after a delicious salad ( you didn’t believe me did you !!!) in one of the pretty restaurants in the amphitheatre, we wandered back to our room absolutely knackered and fell asleep to the sound of ( thankfully not the trumpet major) the busy streets below us.
